Dishonorary Degree

Posted by: Laer at 07:48 am

Here’s a little evidence that Barack Obama is the most divisive president in the history of these United States:  Within hours of news breaking that when Obama speaks at Arizon State University, he will not receive an honorary degree because of “lack of experience,” the story has already generated 75,000 hits on Google.

Since I was an editor of the Indiana University student newspaper, I’ll lead with the ASU Red Devil report:

ASU will not award President Barack Obama an honorary degree when he speaks at the commencement ceremony on May 13.

University spokeswoman Sharon Keeler said Tuesday that the University awards honorary degrees to recognize individuals for their work and accomplishments spanning their lifetime.

“Because President Obama’s body of work is yet to come, it’s inappropriate to recognize him at this time,” Keeler said.

I could take issue.  In less than two months, Obama has gone from an inexperienced neophyte with no real accomplishments other than getting elected president to an inexperienced neophyte his has fundamentally changed America for the worse.  But true experience doesn’t come from the first action, it comes from dealing with the reactions and repercussions, and Obama has had none of that yet, so despite his many dangerous accomplishments since coming into office, he still is at his core inexperienced.

Huffpo is bitter:

Writing two best-sellers? Not outstanding. Developing one of the largest grassroots organizations in the world? Nothing special. Becoming the first African American President of the United States? Good, but nothing to write home about.

It goes on to whine that Barry Goldwater got his ASU honorary degree after just eight years as Senator (Obama has just over two) and Sandra Day O’Connor got hers after just three of her 25 years on the SCOTUS.  O’Connor had done a bit more than just be on the Supreme Court, however. Thirteen years into her legal career, she became Assistant Attorney General of Arizona, then served over two terms in the Arizona senate, including a stint as majority leader. After that, she was elected judge of the Maricopa County Superior Court, then was appointed to the Arizona Court of Appeals by a Democratic governor.

Huffpo proves ASU point, and ASU scores a much-needed victory for academic integrity, as Notre Dame works to destroy it.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
