The Queen And O: Gift Gaffe II
The woman in the gospels who poured expensive, fragrant oil on Jesus’ head is remembered still today, because He was pleased with the her generosity. Barack Obama’s gift-giving will not leave such a positive impression - “generosity” won’t come to mind; cheap and vain will.
The news reports yesterday tell us the Obama’s gave the Queen an iPod. Like she didn’t have one already. Like they’re pretty much standard giftware nowadays; not the sort of stuff that demands a lot of thoughtful consideration.
Now we learn from Jake Tapper at ABC that Obama’s gift wasn’t only cheap; it was vain. Downloaded onto the iPod were photos of Obama’s inauguration, his inauguration speech (remember how pedantic and boring that was?) and his 2004 stemwinder at the Democratic National Convention.
What, no pix of him as a baby?
Apparently Tapper is catching flack from the Obama-worshipping, Bush-hating left for daring to run the playlilst on his ABC blog. Here’s a note from his Twitter page from last night:
for angry libs complaining about the iPod story: who do you think is sharing this info about the iPod? u think we broke into buckingham?
Thanks to Cap’n Ed for the tip that led me to that. Adds the Capt’n:
Exit question: How’d Team Barry forget to pre-load that ass-covering speech on race he gave last year — which, I believe, was the last time he dared to utter a syllable on the subject? Isn’t that supposed to be the greatest work of American literature since “Huckleberry Finn” or something? Way to cheap out on the Queen!
By the way, the NY Times followed liberal orthodoxy unlike Tapper, and didn’t mention the speeches.
On the plus side, the Queen apparently had been warned by Gordon Brown not to expect much thoughtfulness from the Obamas. The Prez was given a sterling silver framed photo of the Queen and Prince Philip.
