Morals? Don’t Talk To Obama About Morals

Posted by: Laer at 05:52 pm

The radically pro-abortion Obama administration is moving to “rescind in its entirety” the so-called “conscience provisions” (five in all) adopted by Congress over the years and made more viable by George W. Bush, which protect health care workers who receive federal funding from having to perform abortions or other medical procedures if it is against their religious or moral beliefs.

The Obama Justice Department brief makes it pretty darn plain:

The Department is proposing to rescind in its entirety the final rule entitled “Ensuring That Department of Health and Human Services Funds Do Not Support Coercive or Discriminatory Policies or Practices in Violation of Federal Law,” published in the Federal Register on December 19, 2008 (73 FR 78072, 45 CFR Part 88).

The effect would be to force workers in clinics that receive federal funding – which if Obama has his way will be every clinic in America – to perform abortions they’re in a field of practice where abortions are performed by those who don’t find them morally reprehensible. The Obama Justice Department brief dismisses without comment the reason why Bush pushed for the rule change in the last days of his administration:

Citing concerns that the development of an environment in the health care field that is intolerant of individual conscience, certain religious beliefs, ethnic and cultural traditions, and moral convictions may discourage individuals from diverse backgrounds from entering health care professions, the Department concluded that regulations were necessary ….

Sounds reasonable enough. So why on earth would Mr. Bipartisan, Mr. Hope want to force someone against his or her will to kill a pre-born baby?

Commenters asserted that the rule would limit access to patient care and raised concerns that individuals could be denied access to services, with effects felt disproportionately by those in rural areas or otherwise underserved.

In other words, the rights of the person wanting an abortion are sacrosanct, while the rights of the person who has strongly held religious beliefs are inconsequential.  In these poor, underserved environments where jobs are scarce, the health provider would have no choice but quit or get wrong with his or her God.  How’s that for post-partisanship?

Since Planned Parenthood and NOW are ecstatic, you can bet that God is weeping.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
