Disappointment Inside The Beltway
My inside-the-beltway mom and former ambassador step-dad are visiting, and much as I love them (unquatifiably), I was fearing the visit. Politics of course. It seemed I just couldn’t prepare myself for them being all bouncy and bright about how great Obama is; how could I bite my tongue and not show my fear, disgust and anger over the course Rahmbama is steering, the actions they’ve taken?
But a curious thing happened. My mom is terribly disappointed in her rock star candidate, and worried about the future. Paraphrasing:
“We had such hope for him. Of course we thought anything would be better after Bush, and he had such promise. He was what America needed, half black, half white, with a message of hope that was so well delivered.”
Now she’s terribly worried about the long-term effect the stimulus spending bill will have on America’s economy and strength, she’s disgusted with how it was rushed through without meaningful public or Congressional debate and she is appalled by his desire to move the Census to the White House.
How many folks across America are having the same rude awakening, do you suppose? How many are shaking their heads and asking themselves, “How could I have been so foolish?” And no, I did not say, “I told you so.” This is my mom, folks!
Also of note: She had not heard of the NY Times refusal to carry the Aasiya Hassan beheading story. (The paper finally ran it this morning.) She had not heard the news and at first deferred to the NYT, but after she read the initial Fox News report and understood hubby Muzzamil’s role as a “defender of moderate Islam,” she – a career journalist with creds as long as your arm – concluded that of course the story is newsworthy, and of course the NYT should have run it.

Thanks for the update. I am glad the NY Times finally posted and article, of course the stance is that Muslim clerics are just shocked that people could call this an honor killing… Just because he was also abusive at times does not make this NOT an honor killing. I would hope that the guys who do whatever would qualify (in the cleric’s minds) as a bona fide honor killings aren’t all peace and love and then one day, out of the blue, they kill their wives or daughters. That would be a truly disturbing scenario.
My prayers go out to their children who have lost a mother and a father in this…
I was very glad to hear of your mother’s reaction. It gives me hope. I think people took Obama on face value and he made them feel good. They did not see the power grab waiting to happen.

“…How many folks across America are having the same rude awakening, do you suppose? How many are shaking their heads and asking themselves, “How could I have been so foolish?…”
About 66,882,230.
Wake up and smell the facism! It’s not socialism or communism that Obama(ism) is after, it’s about pure, unadulterated facism.
Perhaps those who don’t remember history are truly doomed to repeat it (I’d say to check out the history channel and watch any of the programs about Hitler and Nazi Germany, but the History channel no longer presents history; all of the programming is centered around hunts for sasquach, big foot, UFOs, ghosts and a silly preoccupation with guys who cut down trees or drive trucks on frozen lakes).
Unlike socialism – which appears to be the new buzzword word released by the Obama Press Corps as “allowable to be printed and spoken” by the media – facism is far more insidious and dangerous. Facism allows for the ownership of private property, but disallows freedom, individual rights. Government controls businesses, partners with businesses and tells businesses it doesn’t (yet) control how to operate. Government controls media, enforces censorship and rules through fear and manipulation (y’know … like how Chicago runs).
To cap it all off, everyone seems to want Obama to be BLACK. People VOTED for Obama ‘because he’s BLACK.’ People write stories about Obama ‘because he’s BLACK.’ People claim (wrongly) that he’s the first BLACK president. Martin Luther King Jr. day was hijacked by Obama because he’s BLACK. BLACK history month is all about Obama. That so many people focus on someone because of their skin color just SCREAMS racism. That MLK Day would be overshadowed by ‘the first BLACK president’ is ironic, since MLK’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech contained the iconic “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” … and here America was, celebrating someone because of the color of their skin.
The difference between Musolini’s facism and Hitler’s facism was Hitler’s preoccupation with race. Both versions were doomed to failure, but Hitler was doomed to be immortally despised as well.
The era from 1918 through 1945 was called the Facist Era in some of the history books (now banned/removed from schools. See the New and Exciting history books now featured at your local schools with more color photos and entire chapters devoted to Messiah Obama! Next years editions may even come with sections of UFOs and Sasquach! Sprinkle it with fairy dust and you’ll almost image you’re an Ice Road Trucker, Ax Man or Sand Hog!). I believe that we’re entering a new age of facism under the Obama Regime; a Neo-Facism Age. And not the failed facism of Italy, but the doomed facism of Hitler. It was a mistake to elect the current wannabe dictator, a mistake that – were it not so appalingly accurate, it would be funny – was clearly demonstrated on election day when thousands of voters were driven to the polls aboard short buses.
As I watched election night when Obama was ordained, with all of the media and the ignorant all humping each other’s legs in triumph amid thunderous applause I could only remember the one great line from the last three Star Wars crapfests:
“So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause.”
Your pal,Meat.
