“We Have A Deal” And I’m Getting Nervous

Posted by: Laer at 04:37 pm

T

he Politico headline says it:  “We have a deal,” attributing the quote to no one in particular.  Pressure was all jacked up for a Senate deal today, so I’m not surprised Porkasaurus made it through, but I’m troubled … troubled …

Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Arlen Specter (R-Penn.), who were central to the negotiations, were expected to speak on the floor Friday night.

Emanuel came to participate with Reid in meeting with the two Republicans in Reid’s Capitol office. Reid had already signaled to Collins and Specter that he would accept spending cuts in the range of $80 billion.

Whenever Collins and Specter are central to anything, you know the conservatives have been ditched, the liberals have gotten their 61 votes, and Obama’s gotten his way.  And with Emanuel applying his special kind of elbow grease (bent behind the back and shoved upward), it’s all the more evident that the forces of reason have fallen to the steamroller of spending.

Politico reports the bill is now at $780 billion … a nightmare no matter how you look at it.  There aren’t really bad and worse nightmares; they’re all awful.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
