Obama Won’t Close War Crimes Door
On ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos, the Clintonista host read one of the most outrageous questions posted to date on Obama’s Change.gov site without gagging, choking or guffawing:
Will you appoint a Special Prosecutor (ideally Patrick Fitzgerald) to independently investigate the gravest crimes of the Bush Administration, including torture and warrantless wiretapping?
The question is outrageous, of course. No charges have been filed regarding torture or warrantless wiretapping, so no crime has been charged. At a minimum, Stephanopolous should have added an “alleged.” Because he didn’t, he’s relying on a radical to ask a question he didn’t have the courage to ask himself.
Worse than Stephanopolous’ question was Obama’s response:
Um. We’re … we’re still evaluating how we’re going to approach the whole issue of uh, interrogations, detentions, uh, and so forth, uh, and obviously we’re going to be looking at past practices as well. Uh, and I don’t believe that anyone is above the law. On the other hand, I also have a belief that we have to look forward as opposed to looking back.
Which side are you on, Barack? On the side of the president who’s decimated al Qaeda and protected America from another attack, or on the side of the loons?
