Obama’s Bus Still Rolling

Posted by: Laer at 12:24 pm

Obama’s Magical Bus of Death, blood on its bumper from Ayres, Wright and Obama’s own grandmother, has not been retired, as some might have thought.  No, it’s been dispatched on a special mission to New Mexico:

Bill Richardson is withdrawing his nomination to be commerce secretary, FOX News confirmed Sunday.

Richardson, who will remain governor of New Mexico, is facing a federal grand jury investigation into whether he exchanged government contracts for contributions to three Richardson political committees. (Fox)

I love the passive structure of the lead – “Bill Richardson is withdrawing …” – as if there were no external forces at work here, as if Richardson didn’t hear the roar of a big diesel bearing down on him.

As for the PEOTUS, he naturally said he accepted Richardson’s head resignation with “deep regret” – deep regret that Richardson would bring with him a very difficult confirmation hearing, especially because of the long shadow thrown by Obama Chi-town buddy Rod Blagojevich.  Still, Obama spun:

It is a measure of his willingness to put the nation first that he has removed himself as a candidate for the Cabinet in order to avoid any delay in filling this important economic post at this critical time. I look forward to his future service to our country and in my administration.

Yeah.  Uh-huh.  It’s also very possibly a measurement of his willingness to put his wallet first that this entire mess landed on Obama’s desk just as the coronation inauguration hype excitement started to build.  What choice did Obama have but to pull on, once again, his bus driver’s hat.  The only future service Obama wants from Richardson now is that satisfying “thump, thump” as the wheels role over his former nominee.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
