Cruising Into Normalcy
Overblown expectations for a blow-out Obama inauguration continue to dwindle. Previously we covered reduced projections for celestial-level turnout at the inauguration itself, and now there’s this:
Sluggish sales imperil ‘Yes We Can’ cruise
A cruise that would take President-elect Barack Obama supporters from South Florida to his inauguration next month may be canceled because of slow ticket sales.
Despite its upbeat name — and purpose — the ”Yes We Can 2009 Cruise” is in jeopardy.
The cruise, designed to provide an affordable way for Barack Obama supporters to attend his historic January inauguration, has not drawn enough ticket sales so far to meet the minimum required by the cruise company. …
The ship can carry 1,100 passengers. Two hundred Obama volunteers, including Namphy, were guaranteed a special rate of $1,100, while other passengers were offered a rate of $1,500.
The organizers must sell at least 300 of the full-price tickets to meet the cruise line’s minimum.
The deadline to do so passed on Friday, and the cruise could be canceled at any time. (source)
Organizers blamed the lack of turnout on Christmas holiday busy-ness. Oh, sure – the mighty Obama, herald of the new age, Lightworker and Mr. Yes We Can can’t overcome a little Christmas rush?
