Watcher’s Winners - Pre-Blago Week

Posted by: Laer at 01:50 pm

T

his week the Watcher of Weasels leads us along a vista trail through the blogosphere and it’s fun because Mumbai was winding down and Blagojevich had not yet ramped up, so the nominated posts provided wondrous views of all manner of subjects.  Here’s the best of the best:

First among Council entries was Josuapundit’s The Message Of Mumbai, a lsolid analysis that wraps up with this:

To a great many Muslims, that holy war began fourteen hundred years ago, and they fully understand that this is just the latest round of the war between Islam and the West. Most western elites haven’t even acknowledged that war yet.

Mumbai’s message is that we begin taking them seriously and defend ourselves accordingly.

Tied for second were Bookworm Room’s terrifically funny takedown of that arrogant creep Bill Ayres, Ayers’ Life Was just a Joyous, Misunderstood Frolic and the Razor’s piece on the prez-elect, The Obama Enigma, in which he gives credit to Obama for making some surprisingly good early moves, but:

Obama’s apparent drift rightward isn’t due to a change of philosophy; it’s due to gamesmanship. While we may not know what he really believes, we already know that President-elect Obama is an astute political tactician. His enemies should underestimate him at their peril.

On the non-Council side, a piece I didn’t like all that much, It’s Time to Speak Out Against the Mormon Boycott from American Thinker was a run-away winner.  It did a good job of detailing the shocking number of incidents of actions against the Mormon church by Prop 8 opponents, but did it in the context of hate speech, which I think marginalizes the piece.

I draw your attention instead to the third-place winner, Rants & Raves’ Bad Time for Lovers, a thought-provoking look into the heads of the emerging generation.

For all the posts that got votes - and a nice little intro essay - check out Watcher of Weasels.  Thanks, Watcher, for being our trail guide.  The trail mix was yummy, too.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
