Those dollar figures include health care and other benefits paid to retirees. If the foreign manufactures were responsible for a large group, retirees, the wages would look the same.

You also need to think, what if the US manufactures did not have to pay for the benefits? Well then who would? One guess. Another additional pay out by our Uncle Sam.

The Union has to understand this, and I think that they do with the introduction of the VEBA. With this ratified the manufactures will finally have parity within the pay structures. And the retirees will not have to go to the Federal Gvt. for health care. A win win.

I still do not believe in how the UAW has operated in the past, but they do see who pays their members and I believe that they will act accordingly.

From Answers.com, I see that his base salary is $144,733.47 – modest by any count for the job he does – but I am having difficulty tracking down his total compensation package.
