Gays Force Man From Job For Supporting Prop 8

T

he gross intolerance of those who demand tolerance was on display this week in Sacramento as fallout from the passage of Prop 8 - California’s gay marriage ban - continued, showing gay activists to be … what’s the word they’d use? … heterophobic.

More than 100 people gathered outside the Music Circus today to support Scott Eckern, the theater director who resigned amid controversy over his donation to support the ban on same-sex marriage.

Carrying signs that read “You Made a Circus Out of Freedom” and “A Sad Day for Sacramento Theater,” supporters from throughout the region showed up for the hastily arranged rally.

Many of those gathered say Eckern was treated unfairly.

“This is a witch-hunt,” said Lance Christensen, who says he’s a regular patron of the theater and took off work to show his support for Eckern. “This man has devoted 25 years of his life to theater in Sacramento.”

Eckern resigned from his post as artistic director of the California Musical Theater this morning after harsh reaction to news he donated $1,000 to the campaign to support Proposition 8. (SacBee, emphasis added)

What a bunch of pathetic hypocrites, demanding freedom for themselves while denying it to others. Have brown shirts become standard issue for gays now?

    thank you for this.

    Sorry, but there is no legal equivalence between a politically motivated discharge and a denial of Constitutionally guaranteed civil rights to a suspect class of citizens.  He is free to exercise his free speech and donate funds to whatever political cause he wants, and his employer is free to fire him per an at will contract under the law even if it is for self-serving reasons.  There is no constitutional right to employment as a musical theater director at the CMT, and he is not being discriminated against by the state as a suspect class under the Equal Protection Clause.  And, of course, gay performers are free to deny their labor to the CMT.                                Having said that, I do think it is sad that the prospect of a boycott would cause the man to lose his job, although their cause is far better than stupid fake-controversy campaigns Bill O’Reilly and others have undertaken to boycott Walmart or Target until they start saying “merry X-mas” rather than “happy holidays” to their customers.  It is unfortunate that the man should suffer disproportionately for his political views, but wouldn’t conservatives normally view this as a case of his assuming the risk–it’s not like he’s employed by the Mormon Church…he works in musical theater, for God sakes!!                                    What is intriguing to me, however, is that Mr. Eckern has a lesbian sister and says that he does not disapprove of her lifestyle, so I’d like to know why exactly he donated to the pro-Prop 8 campaign in the first place.

    Who exactly “forced” this man from his job, and how did they do it? Did they hold a gun to his head & make him write a resignation letter? Did they hold his family for ransom until he resigned? The fact is nobody “forced” him to resign. He resigned of his own free will, which is mentioned in the full article. Here’s the part you conveniently left out;

    He said he is leaving “after prayerful consideration to protect the organization and to help the healing in the local theatergoing and creative community.”

    Maybe instead of just reporting part of the story in order to further incite the right-wing you should report the whole story & let people judge for themselves.

    So when the homosexuals don’t get their way they blow up. Duh.

    Enquring Mind, don’t pretend you don’t know the answers to your question - it obviously became evident to Eckern that he would be in a hostile workplace, and that the people to give money to the theater are so prejudiced that they won’t allow differing viewpoints.  They didn’t have to hold him ransom - they held him in contempt for holding the same point of view of the majority of the people in the state.
    In the Soviet Union, this kind of control was imposed on art; it had to be Soviet art.  Now are we in a country where if you don’t hold the orthodox PC view, you are excluded from the arts? It looks like it.

    But they supported and voted for a man who was reared in a religion that would see their head on a chopping block give the chance. Odds are that with the mental retards running the show they will find themselves under the ‘rule’ of a party that will make they’re wish come true. At least without a head they won’t be protesting. Nazi’s exterminated Jews for religious purposes.  Islam exterminates homosexuals while worshipping a child rapist, isn’t that a bad thing to be supporting unless you have a death wish?

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
