The Dreaded Gorelick For AG?

Posted by: Laer at 08:24 am

Now this is pure speculation – and NY Times speculation at that – but we read under the headline “Jamie Gorelick” and beside a photo of said Gorelick in a HIllary-esque orange jacket (is that a marijuana leaf on the lapel … no, but it’s sure not a flag):

As he prepares to take office, President-elect Barack Obama is relying on a small team of advisers who will lead his transition operation and help choose the members of a new Obama administration. Following is part of a series of profiles of potential members of the administration.

Name: Jamie Gorelick

Being considered for: Attorney general

This would be the same Jamie Gorelick who ensured, under Clinton, that there would be no cooperation between the FBI and CIA. The same Gorelick who, on the 9/11 Commission, tried to defend that fiasco after its appalling results were seen by all.

It’s the same Jamie Gorelick who was vice-chair of Fannie Mae when the General Services Administration found the firm was filing fraudulent financials. And, as Hot Air points out:

She got a Friends of Angelo sweetheart mortgage for almost a million dollars in 2003, and is currently under investigation by the department she would run if nominated for AG.

The NYT gets one thing right in writing up Gorelick:

Some conservative bloggers have already begun trying to derail Ms. Gorelick’s possible nomination as attorney general, pointing to her experiences at both Fannie Mae and the Sept. 11 commission.

In deference to the incoming president, I want to see this as nothing but a smokescreen. Perhaps he is using the nomination as a symbol of inclusiveness and forgiveness extended to the Hillaryites, among whom Gorelick was a majordomo, but has no intention of actually nominating her.

But wait a minute! He picked Rahm Emanuel, a Gorelich contemporary at Fannie Mae and co-recipient of its largess – big donations for Emanuel, sweetheart mortgage for Gorelich.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
