Words Obama Might Want To Re-Read

Posted by: Laer at 07:50 pm

In his second memoir, The Audacity of Hope, Pres-elect Obama wrote of his first meeting with Pres. Bush. They had some political chit-chat in which Obama tells us Bush warned him,

“I’ve been in this town awhile and, let me tell you, it can be tough. When you get a lot of attention like you’ve been getting, people start gunnin’ for ya. And it won’t necessarily just be coming from my side, you understand. From yours, too. Everybody’ll be waiting for you to slip, know what I mean? So watch yourself.”

But when it came time for Bush to speak, Obama didn’t like what he saw:

“Suddenly it felt as if somebody in a back room had flipped a switch. The president’s eyes became fixed; his voice took on the agitated, rapid tone of someone neither accustomed to nor welcoming interruption; his easy affability was replaced by an almost messianic certainty. As I watched my mostly Republican Senate colleagues hang on his every word, I was reminded of the dangerous isolation that power can bring, and appreciated the Founders’ wisdom in designating a system to keep power in check.”

Messianic certainty? Followers that hang on every word? Dangerous isolation and awesome power? It would serve Obama well to keep a copy of that paragraph handy in the Oval Office, re-reading it regularly to keep any emerging megalomania in check.

Especially with junk like this happening before he’s even spent one second as president:

Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation’s 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

Do you mean his memoir ‘The Audacity of Hope’?

Yes, thank you for catching my error and passing it along.  I’ve made the correction.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
