Obama Wins: Will There Be ANY Blue Dogs?

ith West Coast polls closed, California obviously being called for Obama, Fox News calling the election for Obama and seeing the pick-ups the Dems are getting in Congress, I’m wondering why any Dem would stake out a moderate position in Congress.

If I’m right, the opportunities for Blue Dog Dems and Republicans to work together to thwart a wholesale move of the nation to the left will be few and far between. And that means that America will no longer be a center-right nation, but will become a center-left nation.

The upside: There’s a chance the Dems will steer too left too fast and the GOP will be back in two years with a Newt-esque moment.

Correction.  America voted as a center-left country, which is why Obama won and the Senate and House became bluer.  It most likely will be governed as such.  Else, Obama’s Presidency and the Democratic-controlled Congress will be short-lived.  We’ve already seen when the GOP strays too far to the right, forgetting fiscal responsibility, minimal government intrusion and the virtue of working across the aisle.  The Democrats won’t quickly make the mistake in the other direction, and the speculation around a ton of ex-Clinton folks (mostly centrists like Summers, Rubin, Furman) joining the administration is early proof of that.

With Obama winning the presidency by seven percent, we can't blame the media. Their laudatory coverage and refusal to extensively probe into Obama's background and [lack of] experience was at best responsible for five percent of his vote, the pundits tell us. Here is a compilation of over 100 significant instances of pro-Obama/anti-McCain bias during the 2008 campaign.
