Let’s Hear It For Sharia Law!

Here’s the beauty of Islam and its perverted justice system in a nutshell: Keep women uneducated, so they don’t know how to defend themselves, and discourage men from defending them, then you can stone a whole lot of women to death without having to stone too many men! What’s not to love!?

In theory the penalty of stoning to death applies to both men and women.

But the lawyers say that in practice, many more women than men receive the sentence because they are less well educated and often poorly represented in court. (BBC)

And it’s happening again in Iran - that showplace of Islamic rule - as eight women and one man face imminent stoning for sexual sinning. The women were found guilty of adultery or prostitution, the man was found guilty of having sex with one of his students.

One imam, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, supposedly suspended stoning in 2002, but it hasn’t stopped the practice, and lawyers for the eight say they fear the sentences will be carried out at any time.

And what goes on at Guantanamo is cruel and unusual?

Knife Control! We Need Knife Control!

e Americans are so violent, our European peers say demeaningly. What kind of country allows mere citizens to own firearms, for cryin’ out loud? Well, put this in your Euro-superiority pipe and smoke it:

Britain is struggling to get to grips with a surge of fatal knife attacks, which analysts say reflects a growing sense of insecurity on the country’s streets.While some say young people are increasingly carrying knives as a fashion item, others say it is simply because they are scared of being attacked and so make sure they are armed.

On Friday police confirmed the death of an 18-year-old in south London, the 21st teenager to die of violence in the British capital this year, amid wider concerns about anti-social behaviour among young people on the streets.

That came after nine people were killed across the country the previous week, including six in only 24 hours.

There were over 22,000 knife-carrying offenses in Britain last year - just a tad more than our good ol’ American gun-totting offenses.

Some say it all just boils down to knives as a fashion trend, with Facebook and MySpace entries showing young Brits proudly showing off their blades. Others say it’s real, citing research showing that young people have a real fear of being attacked … because more young people are being attacked.

If Britain’s large Muslim population and the social tensions generated by that particular social change have anything to do with it, this report isn’t saying. Which of course means nothing.

China’s Olympic Worries

ice photo, huh? Kinda captures the warm, friendly face of China, doesn’t it? Well, let’s see what AFP has to say about China in this final month before the Olympics:

Police have killed two people in a clash with villagers in southwestern China in the latest outburst of social unrest in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics, an activist group and state media said on Sunday.

The clash occurred Saturday morning in remote Yunnan province when more than 1,000 local rubber growers protested in a dispute over the sale of their crops, the Hong Kong Centre for Human Rights and Democracy said.

Police called in to quell the protest in Menglian county then battled with the rubber planters, shooting two dead and seriously injuring a third, said the centre, which frequently issues reports about unrest in China.

It said about 20 people had been arrested.

Local police declined comment when contacted by AFP by phone.

In the same report, there’s this little tidbit:

More than 100 people in southern China’s Guangdong province attacked police officers on Thursday over the suspected beating to death of a motorcycle driver by security guards, state media reported earlier.

The Chinese are very worried about these problems in the provinces, and have ordered local governments to pull out the stops to resolve disputes like these at local level, so protests don’t spread to Beijing during the Olympics, embarrassing the Beijingoists.

But if these two cases represent how local Commies are resolving local disputes, it seems likely some groups will try to use the visibility to show the beast behind the Olympic glitter. Wouldn’t that be splendid?
