Kissing Off California
L
et’s start by dismissing the idea that the left-lunging voters of California will elect a Republican governor in 2010. Except for the mildly interesting possibility of Meg Whitman, former eBay CEO and adviser to Sen. John McCain, there’s no one of note on the horizon.
But California has a long history of chewing up and spitting out wealthy business execs who make a run for the gov’s mansion, so a Dem it very likely will be. The question is, which one?
- Gavin Newsome, who’s famous for briefly, illegally legalizing gay marriage in San Francisco, but should be known for all the insanely wacky policies of the city - including most recently shielding Honduran illegal alien crack dealers from deportation. He formed an exploratory committee yesterday.
- Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown, who nearly destroyed the state the last time he was gov and now brings to the table experience as the mayor of the majorly dysfunctional city of Oakland and a stint as a global warming crusading AG. He just changed the name of his campaign committee from “Jerry Brown for Attorney General” to “Jerry Brown 2010.”
- Antonio Villaraigosa, LA’s mayor, total immigration wuss and storied philanderer, who likely will be found with his pants around his ankles at least once during the campaign. He’s got to be re-elected mayor before he can credibly announce.
My mind goes numb trying to calculate the lesser of these three evils.

If it weren’t for the fact that California has what is, for me, the perfect climate, I would be sooo out of here.
