A Blogging Hiatus
If this weekend was like most weekends in America, a few kids didn’t make it through to Monday. They died because their system just shut down in the face of too much alcohol, or because their organs melted from Ecstasy’s mysterious attacks on the body’s thermostat, or because some sicko slipped too much GHB into their drink, or because they took too many cold pills or huffed too many fumes off of God knows what.
And each time one of them dies, my wife thinks, “If only they’d seen my film.”
She’s right. For example, we know of a high school girl who watches Beth’s film every weekend before she goes out, to remind her to not give in to drug temptations. She’s seen the film and she’s all right.
There needs to be more opportunities for more kids to benefit from viewing the film’s true-life stories of what happened to four kids, told straight-up with no phony narration or effects. There needs to be more parents who watch the Parents Edition of the film and learn what to be concerned about, what to watch out for, and what to do.
So this May, I’m going to take the time I spend (waste?) blogging and do with it whatever I can to increase awareness of the Voice of the Victims films. My targets? First of all, ways to reach parents, like Dr. Phil, Oprah, MSM and the Web. Second, teachers and the people who run the dorms in colleges. And kids, of course, and anyone else.
Summer and the return to school in the fall are particularly dangerous times, as are Prom and graduation. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get the word out before these happy life milestones turn tragic for some of them.
Please forward this post to anyone you know who might need the film, or who might be able to help. Thanks, and see you in June.
p.s.: This decision was easy, but dealing with really having to do it was hard, because I had to admit how addicted I am to blogging. I was prepared to try a little blogging, maybe mornings only for this month, but I know myself too well. I prayed about it a lot, and the answer was clear: Give it up and re-focus! So, cold turkey it is!
